A term originating from the heyday of American diners, a Blue Plate Special refers to a special budget-friendly meal that typically changes from day to day. They often feature classic, comfort-food dishes and are known for their affordability and hearty portions. The term “Blue Plate” likely originated from the practice of serving these specials on blue-colored plates in some diners. We’re big fans of Blue Plates (…even though we serve ‘em up on white plates)! These specials allow us to make dining out an exciting and affordable experience for you, our guests. You get to try a variety of dishes throughout the week and our chefs get the opportunity to flex their creative culinary muscles—you never know what Tuesday’s Skillet Frittata or Chili flavors will be, you’ll just have to come in and see for yourself.

Biscuits & Sawmill Gravy
Start your day with two buttermilk biscuits and scrambled eggs, smothered with housemade bacon gravy. (The gravy gets its name from its logging camp origins, we make ours with our favorite, Nueske’s applewood smoked bacon.) Guests regularly rave about this dish. We’ve heard it called “awesome,” “life-changing,” and “beyond delicious,” but can’t wait to hear what you think.
Burger Blue Plate Specials
Our most popular Blue Plate Special! Enjoy a hearty burger served with our twice-cooked French fries. Try long-time manager Marcy Harris’ favorite, a pasture-raised beef burger, of which she says, “The flavor is astounding. I have not been able to find a burger on par with it anywhere else.” Or, opt for a New Mexico black bean and hominy burger, it’s meat-free but full of flavor from roasted garlic, red roasted peppers, New Mexico green chiles, and onions.

Logger Skillet Cake
Enjoy a sweet start to your days with a Belgian pancake cooked in a skillet, topped off with whipped cream and fresh berries.
We have multiple guests that come by every Wednesday for our special meatloaf made with beef and pork, served with mashed potatoes and sautéed spinach. Are you a fan of this comfort food classic? We make our breakfast tacos with Flour tortillas with fresh, free-range eggs and our chef’s choice of local ingredients. Rotating offerings means this blue plate special could be a new flavor adventure every time!
Blue Plate BBQ
For our guests who have trouble deciding which type of barbecue to go for, this plate brings together the best of the BBQ world! A tasty combo of pit-smoked BBQ pulled pork, finished with our Eastern North Carolina-style vinegar sauce, and pit-smoked BBQ beef, braised in our housemade Red Rage sauce, along with a side of bacon-braised greens and mashed potatoes.
A flour tortilla filled with smoky pulled pork, fluffy scrambled eggs, and mellow Ig Vella Monterey Jack cheese, topped with housemade salsa ranchero. Why is this breakfast burrito so darn good? Ari Weinzweig explains, “The smothered breakfast burrito is another example of combining a series of super-high-quality ingredients into one amazing assemblage,” adding, “It all comes together in this blend of creamy, slightly spicy, super smooth, savory goodness.”
Grillades & Grits
A classic brunch dish in New Orleans, this is a meal that we like to enjoy around the clock! Grillades (pronounced GREE-ahds) are thin medallions of meat that are dredged in flour, browned, then pan-braised in crushed tomatoes and a delicious roux-thickened sauce. We serve our Creole-smothered steak over Anson Mills’ stone-ground grits topped with Cabot cheddar cheese and scallions. Ordering a side of buttermilk biscuits to sop up that gravy is always a good move!
